救母小金剛

《救母小金剛》題材源自於民間故事《寶蓮燈》。故事起於三聖母在華山投胎成女子，與書生劉彥昌相識相戀，誕下主角沉香。後來，二郎神奉玉皇大帝的命令，將三聖母鎮壓在華山的黑風洞。沉香長大後，拜霹靂大仙為師，拯救母親的精彩故事。

現代化對台灣人的衝擊很大,影響很多台灣人的生活的價值觀, 雲林是台灣的農業大縣,在現代化的洪流中,仍保有淳樸的民風,重 視傳統文化,孝道,則是傳統文化的核心。新布袋戲實驗室在發想實 驗作品時,當決定要從 史神怪中去尋找題材,就考量到實驗作品要 能發揚雲林精神文化特色的題材。《救母小金剛》源自《寶蓮燈》, 或是《劈山救母》的台灣民間盛傳的故事,布袋戲也經常演出這個劇 目,實驗室的主持人是土生土長的雲林斗南人,從小經常駐足當地廟 會的戲台前觀賞《寶蓮燈》,《寶蓮燈》是年紀半百以上喜愛布袋戲 的雲林鄉親共同的記憶。《救母小金剛》就是現代化的《寶蓮燈》, 實驗室希望藉以宏揚孝道,發揚雲林在地文化精神而創作的劇作。
